Virginia Brown’s voice was recently heard and broadcast across LinkedIn. She shared with followers some details about Murray Company’s diversity and inclusive program and the strategies we’re employing to attract, retain, and cultivate a balanced and empowered workforce.  The inspiration came from Diane Anglin, Communications Executive at Clark Construction, co-organizer and moderator of the Amplify Women in Leadership Event that took place on Tuesday, January 24th in Long Beach.  The event benefited the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach.

Murray Company was an event sponsor and in attendance were over 100 women leaders including Vice President Virginia Brown and Project Manager Casey Lanham.

Diane Anglin hosted an informative and fun event while providing sincere words of wisdom to the captive audience. Virginia reflects, “We are extremely grateful for Keynote Speaker Alicia Wachtel’s, (Executive Director/Facilities Planning, Design and Construction at Cedar Sinai) funny, inspirational and candid guidance.”

Representatives from Build California, an organization that promotes interest for young people to enter careers in the trades and 4-year degree construction positions, were in the audience too.  This organization is active in their recruitment campaigns, focusing on rebranding the construction industry, empowering and creating varied career options in the construction industry.

Virginia Brown shares,

The event also contributed to Cabrillo High School’s efforts to amplify the potential of young people.  Ken Fisher (Cabrillo High School CED Lead Teacher & Carlston Family Foundation Board Member) leads the Cabrillo High School STEM program which, in nine years, has led to an unprecedented rate of college acceptance.  This process has also led to better identification of students interested in trade-based careers. Project Manager Casey Lanham adds,

The audience participated in a “Leadership Style Matrix” activity to help highlight your leadership traits. Words were selected to describe your personality traits and as a result, a variety of techniques were provided to help you become a more impactful leader, no matter where you lead or who you’re leading. The exercise was beneficial to help guide you on how to improve on handling the responsibilities and pressures while leading others. The entire event was very empowering and informative for all in leadership positions.
