$33,000 Raised for CHOC and CHLA at the 27th Annual Murray Company Golf Tournament

$33,000 Raised for CHOC and CHLA at the 27th Annual Murray Company Golf Tournament

The 27th Annual Murray Company Golf Tournament went off without a hitch!  Over 280 golfers checked in to Industry Hills Golf Club on Friday, September 22nd at 7:00 AM.  This year’s start time was pushed back a few hours to beat the heat, but the heat never came.  Golfers basked in the comfort of partly cloudy skies and a 78-degree day.

Nearly 90 Murray Company employees played along with over 70 sponsor-golfers and well over 100 clients and special guests like Chairman of the Board, Kevan Steffey, Chairman John Odom, Retiree Curtis Mellon and Retiree Mark Piliavin.  With the tournament having a reputation for being “the best tournament in town”, a “first-class event”, “the industry’s gold standard for tournaments”, there’s never a shortage of participants and enthusiasm.  Even those who don’t typically golf come out to play.

Here are just some highlights from the MC’s biggest annual fundraiser.

At check in…
Top to Bottom: Bob Moore, Minti Hill, Andy Johnson, Craig Komata, and Jay Madison (with volunteer Carrie Meyers) with their colleagues and foursomes.
Ben Cheffers, Olivia Fields, Alex Ruvalcaba, Joe Camacho, Mike Galindo and Christopher Ellis in their respective groups.

Children’s Hospital Orange County and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles were this year’s benefitting charities, both of which work wonders in the communities that we help build with our GC partners. Murray Company has done quite a bit of work at CHLA and CHOC over the years, in fact, we’re currently in partnership with McCarthy Building Companies on the CHOC Southwest Tower Project.

At the Dinner/Awards Ceremony, President/CEO, Jim DeFlavio, called to the stage CHOC’s PX Serj Eyvazian and CHLA’s Jeff A. Moe to receive an oversized check depicting the charity amounts for their respective healthcare institutions.  Murray Company matched the charity amount raised through the tournament by 100%, hence, affording each charity a $33,000 check.

Jim DeFlavio, Donny Odom, Serj Eyvazian of CHOC and Derek Fett are grateful and proud of the donation to CHOC (which was founded in 1964; coincidentally, the same year as the check number).
Jeff A. Moe of CHLA graciously accepts a donation check presented to him on behalf of Murray Company by Donny Odom, Jim DeFlavio and Derek Fett. CHLA was built in 1901 (perhaps another coincidence with the check number)
Twenty-dollar ($20) charity raffle tickets were sold online leading up the tournament and throughout the day. There were many hopefuls for the charity prize, a $5,000 gift card to The Ritz Carlton, Bacara! PX Steve Fosdick is pointing to the Bacara-bound vendor, Jordan Smith of Kohler (an event sponsor).
