On Friday, March 8th Murray Company’s hosts including VP Virginia Brown, PX Steve Fosdick and members from the LAX MC Aviation Sector like PM Jose Ortega, PM Joel Janni, Project Coordinator Neli Cordoba, Superintendent Terry Walls STS-C and HVAC Preconstruction Lead Meredith Biscornet welcomed their Hensel Phelps’ airport project counterparts to Murray Company corporate where they toured the 100K+ SQ Fab Shop.
Around 20 HP folks were treated to coffee and donuts upon arrival, and then provided an educational and comprehensive overview by Vice President Virginia Brown of the fab shop life cycle and general processes. Virginia and Steve described the magic behind the scenes, as well as how they relate to specific aspects of our past/current work with Hensel Phelps on LAX projects like Delta Airlines Terminal 2 & 3, Southwest Airlines Terminal 1 & T1.5, & American Airlines Terminal 4 & 5, etc. Professional Engineer Mauricio Campos, correlated the process to the upcoming Southwest Terminal 0 scope of work. MC Detailer Chris Wawara also helped connect the pieces of coordination, detailing, spooling and fabrication. Since a shop walk is the most fun way to visualize the intricate dance between detailing and fabrication, the group then toured the first-class shop, leaving HP that much wiser, more enlightened and appreciative of the work we do as a trusted trade partner.
Post-visit, HP’s Project Engineer Richard (Richie) Reed shared,
“It was a pleasure touring Murray Company’s Fabrication Shop and learning about the complex systems that support our construction operations at LAX. From HVAC duct to plumbing, hydronic lines to condensate lines, civil underground to jet fuel, Murray Company utilizes automated fabrication processes and skilled craftmanship to keep the work going at the airport. We look forward to our continued partnership at LAX.”
While Khalil Williams, HP’s Lead VDC Engineer, expressed his appreciation,
“Good morning, Murray Team: I wanted to take some time to thank you all for setting time aside in your busy schedules to organize and provide a Shop Tour. I can confidently say that we all learned something new and beneficial that can be used in our day-to-day coordination. Virginia, special thanks to you for so eloquently educating the HP team on the ins and outs of Murray’s fabrication process, your time is greatly appreciated!”
