ENR’s Regional Best Project of the Year in the Water Category Goes to…the Hyperion Project with the City of Los Angeles

ENR’s Regional Best Project of the Year in the Water Category Goes to…the Hyperion Project with the City of Los Angeles

The Hyperion Project Team under the leadership of Project Manager Steve Gonzales for many many years, is all smiles after yesterday’s ENR Awards Breakfast at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.

The backstory: the Engineering-News Record (ENR), provides the engineering and construction news, analysis, commentary and data that construction industry professionals need to do their jobs more effectively. Each year, across the country in various regions, the ENR solicits submissions for the Regional Best Project Award as follows:

“We are seeking entries for our annual awards program, which is dedicated to honoring the best construction projects and the companies that designed and built them in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Projects compete in 18 specialized categories, ranging from airport/transit to sports/entertainment. Entries with exemplary safety or sustainability programs can also be submitted for two special awards: Excellence in Sustainability and Excellence in Safety. Independent juries of industry leaders in design and construction from each of ENR’s 10 regional editions will judge the projects using five criteria, including safety, innovation and teamwork. The winners will be honored at an awards ceremony later in the year and will be featured in the regional editions of ENR. Projects deemed best in category will automatically compete in the Best of the Best Projects, a national juried competition appearing in ENR.” Source: https://www.enr.com/bestprojects

In response to this solicitation, Murray Company’s client, the City of Los Angeles, submitted the Hyperion Headworks Odor Control Upgrade Project for consideration and by popular vote by a diverse and experienced judging panel, hand-picked this project which ultimately received the:

2024 Best Projects Award from Engineering News-Record- ENR California region (includes HI) in the Water/Environment category

The City of Los Angeles was called to the stage to accept this award and expressed thanks for the recognition and to the Murray Company team for their fine work on this important site that keeps Los Angeles “flowing”.

Project Manager Jeff Hosler shares his thoughts,

“I had the privilege of leading a team whose ability to adapt and overcome challenges was nothing short of remarkable. With the collaboration of 13 subcontractors and more than 20,000 direct man-hours, every obstacle became a steppingstone for innovation. Foremen Robert Nicol and Bill Visser’s leadership were pivotal in guiding this project. The project’s success is a testament to our team’s resilience, expertise, and collaborative spirit. Together, we turned complex problems into sustainable solutions, reinforcing Los Angeles’ infrastructure and shaping its future.”

Kudos and high-five to this 5-Star Project Team
