Murray Company NorCal Apprentice Alex Lopez Takes 2nd Place at Regionals in Vegas  

Murray Company apprentices are on a roll!  Remember last week’s post recapping the Apprentice State Competition in which we shared that NorCal Apprentice Alex Lopez took 1st place in the Pipefitting category? If you missed it, read up here. 

Alex then went on to compete in Regionals in Las Vegas June 13-15 and took 2nd place in this same category! Regionals were hosted at the office of UA Local 525 Plumbers, Pipefitters, Welders & HVAC.   Many of Alex’s UA Local 342 brothers came out in support from Concord, CA including the Business Manager, Ché Timmons. 

Congratulations to Alex for kicking “pipe” and taking names!  

The Regional Competition Event Itinerary:

June 13th – Registration 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Dinner 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm, Orientation 7:00 pm – 7:30 pm.

June 14th – Contest 6:00 am – 4:30 pm (breakfast served at 6:00 am, lunch provided, no dinner)

June 15th – Contest 6:00 am – 4:30 pm, Awards ceremony 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

The competition had several phases, one of which included hands-on activities like this.
Alex Lopez is pleased with the finished product. Assembling this spool per specific drawings was one of the skills in the competition. Alex’s spool is the only one that bolted up.
Murray Company’s Director of Labor Operations, Tom Finell attended the event and witnessed Alex’s ascent to the podium.  Tom ran into The Legendary Frank Hargrove of UA Local 250 who retired from Murray Company in 2022.  Frank served as one of the judges at Regionals.
