On October 18th Murray Company NorCal got together at the UA Local 342 Training Center in Concord (around 30 miles from the San Leandro office) for the Annual NorCal Safety Meeting. Breakfast was served for all the early risers at 6:15 AM and NorCal President Terry James jumped right into welcomes and opening remarks.
The day’s agenda was packed with critically important safety topics that the 70 attendees from the office and field came to discuss and absorb. Guest speaker Richard McElhaney discussed “The Real Cost of Safety” followed by Murray Company staff including Safety Managers Danny Nguyen and Ronnie McCoy, Steve Upton, Joe Carlin, Safety Manager Rex Motzkus and Ethan Brown who addressed topics like Pre-Tasking & Workplans, Rigging Safety, Risk Tolerance, Gas Start-up & QC and Accident Reporting. Corporate Safety Director Justin Myburg addressed Murray Company’s Stop Work Authority program and provided the ZTP Safety Summary for 2024.

Pictured below is Piping Superintendent Steve Upton, winner of the Safety Quiz (which included 54 general safety related questions) for which he received the Murray Company Golden Hard Hat.


Sheet Metal General Foreman Robert Ceja (left) was a winner too (by popular vote) of the Best Stop Work Authority action taken. Robert was recognized for identifying a fall hazard and ensuring it was made safe on his project by the controlling contractor. Robert ultimately accepted his award at the SoCal Annual Safety Meeting the following week.
