McCarthy Building Companies invited Murray Company again this year to host a hands-on station at the McCarthy Annual Corona Yard Day. This year’s event took place on Friday, November 22nd and was attended by 140+ of the GC’s Project Engineers from various projects including project admins and support staff from the SoCal Region.
Murray Company was one of several trade partners in the Corona Yard that day engaging with their young workforce through activities specific to our trade. Murray Company’s station was the “Pipe Soldering, Fitting & Cutting, Duct Work” stop at which each group spent around 40 minutes constructing a bird house out of sheet metal pieces (prefabricated by our partners at Superior Duct Fabrication).
For some, the task of drilling screws into sheet metal came rather easily, while others gained a new-found appreciation for the patience and experience our craft requires. Sheet Metal Superintendent Matt Doty, Joey Watkins, Brent Phipps and William Hearon mainly supervised this station while Foremen Dave Miller and Rafael Ochoa were overseeing the second activity; soldering copper pipe to make a small vase. McCarthy personnel very much enjoyed these station activities and walked away with a couple souvenirs to boot.

Big shout out to the brains and muscle power in orchestrating the activities and setting up Murray Company’s booth at 6 AM…
