Over 60 Swinerton Builders’ Project Engineers Tour Murray Company’s Fab Shop

On Thursday, September 22nd, over 60 Swinerton Builders’ Project Engineers crossed the white gates of Murray Company at corporate. As part of the general contractors’ bi-monthly PE training event, Murray Company was selected to host a hands-on, industry-knowledge-broadening experience for these project engineers. Our Director of Engineering, William Hearon, MBA, P.E., DBIA, was the main point of contact, the liaison for the event, while SoCal President Ryan Cavanaugh, was the official greeter.

The afternoon kicked off with a Swinerton-hosted lunch and a general plumbing engineering presentation led by William Hearon.

With appetites satisfied and everyone re-energized, fab tours were next on the agenda. The audience was split into two groups. Fabrication Manager Brent Mitte served as the tour guide for one, William, the other. The premise of these tours was to showoff MC’s fabrication shop and processes while discussing automation, the importance of BIM coordination, LEAN construction, just-in-time-delivery, product & production tracking and creating digital twins.

Complimenting the tours outside the John W. Odom training facility, our guests enjoyed a couple hands-on activities. At station 1, powered by Foreman Steve Zeroski and Service Tech Dave Miller, PE’s reamed, sanded, fluxed and soldered copper pipe. Station 2 was manned by Quality Control Kevin Klingaman, and Service Tech Matt Cabrera, who demonstrated and oversaw PE’s snapping cast iron pipe.
