Murray Company’s Underground Division continues to make significant progress at the OC Vibe South Plaza project, where crews recently completed a series of major crane picks involving 54 precast concrete infiltration chambers weighing approximately 30,000 pounds each.
On May 20 and 21, Murray Company team members John Bouabsi, EIT, Project Engineer; Armando Lopez, Foreman; and Steven Diaz, Superintendent, coordinated the complex operation alongside project partners and crane crews. Favorable weather and wind conditions supported a safe, efficient operation.
Located just outside the main entrance to the Honda Center, the concrete infiltration system plays an important role in California’s evolving stormwater management requirements. Designed to capture and retain rainwater onsite, the system allows water to gradually infiltrate the soil, helping reduce runoff into municipal storm sewer systems while supporting groundwater replenishment efforts.
Beyond the infiltration chambers installation, Murray Company’s Site Utilities team has provided extensive underground infrastructure throughout the project, including fire water, domestic water, sewer, storm drain, and low-voltage conduit installations. The team has also collaborated closely with project partner Morrow Meadows to successfully execute portions of the underground utility scope.
Serving as General Contractor on the project, MATT Construction has been a valued partner throughout the work. The collaborative relationship between project teams has helped maintain schedule, quality, and safety goals while navigating the unique challenges of working adjacent to an active entertainment venue.
Project Manager Ryan McClure reflected on the team’s efforts:
“Our team has been working on various projects across the OC Vibe campus since construction first began in 2023. Throughout that time, we’ve consistently delivered high-quality craftsmanship while maintaining safety as our top priority and meeting critical project milestones. The South Plaza project has been particularly fast-paced and technically demanding, requiring Honda Center operations to continue uninterrupted during concerts, events, and even Stanley Cup playoff games.
Armando, John and Steven’s knowledge of existing infrastructure, codes, and industry standards has been instrumental to the project’s success. Their leadership, along with the dedication of the entire field crew, has kept the job running smoothly. Special thanks to our team for continuing to deliver exceptional work and to MATT Construction for being a great partner on this exciting project.”
Congratulations to the Underground Division and everyone involved for another successful milestone at OC Vibe.
